Tracer particle for fluidised bed system - automatically generates detectable magnetic field from incident light

The particle capsule has a transparent, elongated outer cover (11) with rounded ends. Within the capsule is a cylindrical block of material (12), with a coil (13) at one end and a photocell (15) at the other. The output from the cell is fed via wires (14) to the coil. The coil is much heavier than the cell and the centre of gravity (16) is thus nearer the coil end of the capsule. When a light is shone onto the bed, the magnetic field of the coil can be detected by sensors in the bed. The sensor outputs can be analysed to trace the path of the particle over the fluidised bed.
