PURPOSE:To reduce the light transmission loss of an optical waveguide and to stabilize operation characteristics by mounting a part of an electric wiring on the surface of a polycrystalline substance substrate having specific linear expansion coefficient and heat conductivity and including <=10wt.% glass component or an amorphous substance substrate having two same attributes. CONSTITUTION:A part of an electric wiring is mounted on the surface of a polycrystalline substance substrate having <=10W.m<-1>.K<-1> heat conductivity and 3.5X10<-6>K<-1>-9.0X10<-6>K<-1> linear expansion coefficient and including 10wt.% glass component or an amorphous substance substrate having two attributes. A glass layer optically grounded and having borosilicate as a main component is formed on the surface of the substrate and then an optical waveguide layer 3 is formed on the surface of the glass layer. Since the heat conductivity of the substrate is high, heat generation from a light emitting diode or a semiconductor laser to be a light source can be easily discharged to the periphery, so that temperature rise in the device or the optical waveguide 3 can be reduce. Consequently, the operation of the light emitting source and the light transmission characteristics of the optical waveguide 3 can be stabilized. |
