PURPOSE:To fix a start line of a paper at the time of switching a printing mode, by a method wherein when a head position signal and a printing signal are inputted to a printing generating part, a frequency division signal of the position signal is controlled by a controlling means, and a paper-feeding motor is driven according to the output from the controlling means. CONSTITUTION:When an operation is started and a head motor 12 is rotated, a printing request flag is outputted from a microprocessor 20, and starting of a paper-feeding motor 17 is requested. It is judged whether an index signal outputted from an encoder 18 is detected by a position detector 19, and printing is started when the index signal is detected by the position detector 19. It is then judged whether printing is finished. When the printing is not yet finished, it is judged whether the motor 17 synchronous with the head motor 12 may be driven by one step by a signal from a counter 22, and when the motor 17 may be driven, the motor 17 is driven by one step. When the printing is finished, the motor 17 is stopped, thereby finishing the operation.
