PURPOSE:To guarantee plate thickness of both edges of a steel plate by installing two sets of thickness meters in the longitudinal direction of the steel plate, and switching to an optimum thickness meter in accordance with drive side (DS) edge thickness and work side (WS) edge thickness. CONSTITUTION:A first thickness meter 1 for measuring center thickness and DS edge thickness, and a second thickness meter 2 for measuring the center thickness, the DS edge thickness and WS edge thickness are provided at an interval in the longitudinal direction of a continuous steel plate S. When the DS edge thickness and the WS edge thickness are different, if the thin side is WS, the WS edge thickness is measured continuously by the second thickness meter 2, and if the thin side is DS, the DS edge thickness is measured continuously by the first thickness meter 1. When the DS edge thickness and the WS edge thickness are roughly equal, the center thickness is always measured by the first thickness meter 1, and by bringing the second thickness meter 2 to traverse, a simple crown is measured continuously.
