PURPOSE:To obtain a film having an arbitrary color by forming a Ti nitride-Al nitride type composite ceramic coating film on the surface of a base material with a Ti-Al alloy target in a gaseous N2 atmosphere having a regulated concn. CONSTITUTION:A Ti-Al alloy is used as a target in an atmosphere contg. gaseous N2 and the surface of a base material is coated with ceramics by sputtering. At this time, the concn. of the gaseous N2 in the atmosphere is regulated so as to control the color tone. Different colors are developed according to the weight ratio between Ti nitride and Al nitride and the amt. of combined nitrogen.
