PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium having excellent corrosion resistance and sliding resistance by providing an underlying layer consisting of B or essentially consisting of B and contg. one kind of Si, C, O, and N on a substrate and providing a protective layer consisting of a similar material again on said layer via a thin magnetic metallic film. CONSTITUTION:A Boron series film 3 is deposited by sputtering evaporation on a polyimide film 4 and a magnetic film 2 is provided thereon by changing a target to a CoCr alloy; further, the protective film 1 consisting of the B mate rial equiv. to the material of the film 3 is deposited thereon. B alone, B-Si (5-40atom.% content of C), B-C (5-40% C), B-C-Si (5-20atom.% C, 5-20atom.% Si), etc., are used for the B material. The magnetic recording medium suitable for high-density recording is obtd. by this constitution.
