PURPOSE:To rapidly execute the exchange of units by providing a usual/spare contrast table, etc., which is made to store a usual I/O unit address and a spare I/O unit address by relating them each other. CONSTITUTION:A programable controller is constituted of a computation unit (CPU) 1, plural I/O units 2 and a programming tool 3, etc. The CPU 1 provides an MPU 11 and various kinds of memories 12-15, etc. In this case, the usual/ spare contrast table is provided in a work memory 13. The table is made to store the usual I/O unit address and the spare I/O unit address by relating them each other. Therefore, by referring to the table the I/O unit address on a memory/unit contrast table is rewritten to the spare I/O unit address concerning the specified I/O unit and by referring to the rewritten memory/unit contrast table an input/output updating actions are executed.
