PURPOSE:To prevent a panting phenomenon at the time of opening a valve by connecting a supercharging air discharging passage to the immediately upper course side of a starting valve in the captioned engine having said starting valve for feeding intake air on the upper course side of a pressure wave supercharger to an engine at the time of starting, on the lower course side of said supercharger. CONSTITUTION:A pressure wave supercharger 4 is provided extending over discharge passage 3, 3 and has a rotor which is rotated by an engine 1. A starting valve 14 which can be switched over so as to introduces an intake air on the upper course of the pressure wave supercharger 4 to the lower course of an air cleaner 11 and the lower course of an intercooler 10 and to introduce the intake air into the engine 1 via an intake bypass 12 which bypasses the supercharger 4, at the time of starting the engine 1 is provided on an intake passage 2. In this case, a discharge passage (exhaust bypass) 15 for discharging a supercharging air is connected to the immediately upper course side of the starting valve 14 and an auxiliary valve 16 which is opened at a set pressure lower than a defined supercharging pressure or below is provided midway in the discharge passage 15.
