An automatic fastener driving apparatus, particularly for screws, comprises a magazine 3 from which screws 6 are fed along a sorting and aligning deflector 5 to a rotary feed separator 7 and thence along a screw feed duct 8 to a screwdriving unit 9. The feed separator 7 incorporates a carrier 11 which has cams 11a and recesses 18. Area 18a of the recess acts as a screw supporting area and receives screws from the sorting and aligning deflector 5. The carrier rotates clockwise and as each recess is aligned with a pin 21, the pin pushes the corresponding screw inward so that it drops through area 18b of the recess into the screw feed duct 8. The pin 21 has bevelled edges which cooperate with similarly shaped edges on arms 11a so that each recess is accurately positioned above the entry to the screw feed duct. Screws are retained in the screw supporting areas by guides 19, 20. Rotation of the carrier is by a double acting piston and cylinder unit 16 through a pawl 17 and a ratchet wheel 15. The movement is timed according to the operation of the screwdriver unit 9. A supervisory unit 24 stops the apparatus when there is no screw in a recess. The units are mounted on a frame 1 which is adjustable vertically by a screwthreaded spindle 14 engaging a post 2. The carrier 11 and guides 19, 20 are changeable so that different size screws may be used. |
