A toothbrush, which comprises a brush head 2 with brush tufts, which are arranged perpendicular from a brush base, and a handle 4, which is joined to the brush head by an elastically deformable connecting part, so that under load the brush head 2 can bend in a plane perpendicular to the brush base. The elastic connecting part 6 is constructed so that, with a load of 300 g in a given direction, the brush head 2 is deflected to the side of the handle 4 by between approximately 0.6 cm and 2.5 cm. <IMAGE>
