发明名称 SEMI-METALLIC BRAKE PAD
摘要 PURPOSE:To improve substantially braking performance, especially efficiency (coefficient of friction) in an initial brake operation stage by providing a hard iron oxide film on the friction surface of a semi-metallic friction member. CONSTITUTION:After the friction surface of a semi-metallic friction member has been polished, this friction member is placed on absorbent cotton impregnated with a water solution of 10% acetic acid for 2min with the friction surface thereof directed downward. Then, the friction member is left in a room for 4hr, with the friction surface directed upward and dried, thereby forming a layer containing iron acetate (one example of oxide layer). Thereafter, the flame (oxidized flame) of an acetylene gas burner is uniformly applied to the friction surface for 20sec and an iron compound thereon is completely changed to iron oxide and a hard iron oxide film is formed on the friction surface. The coefficient of friction of a semi-metallic brake pad with the iron oxide film formed thereon as aforementioned is rather large in an initial brake operation stage as seen from a curve 'A' and the braking performance of the semi- metallic pad can be substantially improved.
