A tool for hermetically sealing the end of a nuclear fuel rod with a plug has a casing with spaced inlets for the plug and the end of the tube, an elastically expandable lining of smaller diameter than the plug within the casing, and an axially mobile piston for the plug to push ot through the casing and expand the lining. - The lining is pref. of polyurethane.
