PURPOSE:To improve image quality by adjusting angles of first and second turning mirrors after the distance between an acoustooptic modulator and the first turning mirror is changed in accordance with the Bragg angle peculiar to the acoustooptic modulator. CONSTITUTION:The actual Bragg angle of an acoustooptic modulator 7 is measured, and the distance between the modulator 7 and the first turning mirror 9a is calculated on the basis of the measured value. The modulator 7 is moved in the direction parallel with a laser light beam B3 to set the distance between the modulator 7 and the first turning mirror 9a to the calculated value, and angles of first and second turning mirrors 9a and 9b are so adjusted that the inclination of the laser light beam from the modulator 7 and that reflected from the second turning mirror 9b have conjugate relations to the inclination of the laser light beam between first and second turning mirrors 9a and 9b. Thus, the laser light beam row is made parallel with a reference surface S in the subscanning direction of an image recorder. Scanning and recording of high precision are possible.
