PURPOSE:To obtain the titled cutter having durability without sparking in shock with solid foreign materials mixed in opened raw stock, by forming a cutter for a bale opener from a beryllium-copper alloy and subjecting the resultant cutter to solution annealing and hardening treatment. CONSTITUTION:A beryllium-copper alloy, preferably BeA-275C is initially used to form an opening cutter for a bale opener capable of opening a raw stack of an opened bale from the upper part. The resultant cutter is then kept at, e.g. 800-900 deg.C for 1hr, and subjected to solution annealing treatment. The obtained cutter is normally subjected to quenching treatment in water and the solution annealed cutter is subsequently kept at 300-400 deg.C for 2-3hr and then naturally cooled to carry out hardening treatment and impart a required hardness. Thereby the aimed cutter is obtained.
