This medium-voltage or high-voltage switching installation has a main busbar (3) and two auxiliary busbars (1, 2). Each auxiliary busbar (1, 2) is connected to the main busbar (3) via a power switch (circuit breaker) or load-interrupter switch (LS1, LS2). The supply line or lines (4) and the outlet lines (5, 6) are in each case connected to all three busbars (1, 2, 3) via interrupter switches (T01, T02, T03, T11, T12, T13, T21, T22, T23). If the current flow (load current or short-circuit current) in one of the supply or outlet lines is intended to be interrupted, this line is initially commutated without interruption onto an auxiliary busbar and the interrupter connection of this line to the main busbar is then interrupted. The current flow through the power switch or load-interrupter switch associated with this auxiliary busbar is subsequently interrupted. The current flow in all the other lines is not influenced by this process. A line is switched on in a similar manner, likewise by commutating onto an auxiliary busbar. If, independently of this, it is necessary to connect or disconnect a further current to or from another line at the same time, the first line to be connected is connected to one auxiliary busbar, and the second circuit to the other auxiliary busbar. <IMAGE>
