PURPOSE:To prevent an optical means from being vibrated and to rapidly and exactly access to a targeted track, by applying brake on the movement of the optical means by short-circuitting both ends of the tracking coil of a tracking actuator, in a period while an optical pickup is moved and accesses in the neighborhood of the targeted track. CONSTITUTION:In a coarse accessing period to move a carriage 5, a switch 17 is turned OFF by a controller 30, and also, a short-circuit switch 20 is turned ON, then, the both ends of the tracking coil 19 of the actuator 18 are short- circuitted. A back electromotive force is generated in the coil 19, and a braking force to suppress the movement of an objective lens 6 is generated by a current due to the back electromotive force.
