PURPOSE:To attain the transmitting of an individual corresponding response message to a caller by using the reel-to-reel tape for the tape for the response, sound-recording two response messages corresponding to the condition of the tape for business and detecting an incoming call. CONSTITUTION:An automatic answering telephone set classifies and sound- records, by a control signal, first and second response messages of the contents corresponding to the sound recording condition of a tape 23 for business on the same track of a tape 9 for response. While the tape 23 for business can be sound-recorded, the starting edge of the tape 9 for response is detected and the heading of a first response message is executed after the reproduction of a first response message is completed. When the tape 23 for business cannot be sound-recorded, the second response message is reproduced instead of the above-mentioned action. After the reproduction is completed, the heading of the second response message is executed by the detection of the control signal, and the reproducing action of a response message corresponding to the condition of the tape 23 for business is executed. Consequently, simultaneously with the incoming call, the response message corresponding to the sound recording condition of the tape 23 for business is reproduced.
