PURPOSE:To shorten time required for a random access and to prevent the run away of a tracking control by moving again a pick up device after confirming the tracking control when the pick up device does not move to an objective position. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 22 reads information which shows the position of the pick up device 10 on a CD 4 from various control signals outputted by a signal processing circuit 24, compares this position information with objective position information inputted by an operation part 28 and sets the moving direction of the device 10. Then the circuit 22 moves the device 10 and judges that the tracking control accompanied with the movement of the device 10 is stable when an abnormal signal is not inputted by the digital signal processing circuit 24. When it judges that the position information accords with the objective position information and that the random access processing finishes, it finishes the routine processing.
