PURPOSE:To obtain the regenerated image of a synthetic aperture radar of good quality having small noise components by performing subtraction between primary processed image data and ambiguity source image data and canceling and removing ambiguity components. CONSTITUTION:A synthetic aperture radar transmits a pulse signal and an echo signal received from an area to be observed is processed by the image processing of a normal synthetic aperture radar to obtain a reproduced image (primary processed image) 11. The image 11 contains an observed area image 12 and an ambiguity component 13 which makes the image unsharp. Then, the component 13 is determined from the image 11. The mean, maximum, minimum, and dispersion of the source image 14 of this component 13 are found and their respective values are processed by reduction to fractions, etc., to generate image data for forming a reproduced image 15 wherein gradations of the image 14 are lowered properly. Then, the subtraction processing between the primary image data and ambiguity source image data whose gradations are lowered properly is carried to cancel and remove the component 13, thereby obtaining an image 16 of good quality having a small component 13.
