Using a cleaning device on a reactor (1) in which exchange bodies (2), which have end faces (4) and passages between the exchange surfaces (8), are arranged for treating a flowing medium, it is intended for both the end faces (4) and the exchange surfaces (8) to be cleaned during operation. On the reactor (1), at least one cleaning lance (10) is mounted displaceably parallel to the end face (4). The cleaning lance is movable by means of an operating unit (12) and can be connected to a suction or pressure line (14). The cleaning lance (10) loosens contaminants from the end face (4) and sucks them up. Then the passages are blown through. <IMAGE>
