PURPOSE:To eliminate a projection to cover the turning cap of a tape cassette and to reduce the thickness thereof by providing a movable housing part to the position where the turning cap of the tape cassette is moved toward the outside direction of a recording and reproducing device. CONSTITUTION:The rear surface of the tape cassette 10 contacts a movable to plate 19 when the tape cassette 10 is successively inserted into a cassette house 18. The movable top plate 19 turns counter-clockwise by overcoming the energizing force thereof. A top plate cover 20 is successively turned clockwise as well in this stage and therefore, a space is formed above the turning cap 11 of the tape cassette 10 when the tape cassette 10 is fully pushed into the cassette housing 18. One end of the turning cap 11 of the tape cassette 10 contacts the turning pin provided to a main frame 15 and the cap 11 turns clockwise when the cassette holder is successively turned from this state. The part which projects the top part of the tape part formed of the movable top plate 19 and the top plate cover 20.
