A method in the explosive welding of planar or curved workpieces, in which a first workpiece shall be accelerated towards a second workpiece; in which the first workpiece has an explosive charge applied to the surface thereof that faces the second workpiece; and in which the explosive charge is brought into contact with an initiator disc for inspiring explosion of the explosive charge. The invention is characterized by applying the explosive charge (19) to a free edge (21) of the first workpiece (17) which is to be explosively welded to the second workpiece (18) and extending the explosive charge inwardly over the first workpiece (17) over an area which corresponds to a subsequent joint or weld region; and by giving the initiator disc (20) the form of a thin sheet of a highly brisance explosive substance and applying the sheet to and parallel with that side of the explosive charge (19) located at the aforementionend edge (21) of the first workpiece (17). |
