PURPOSE:To attain high speed read of a data in an alternate sector corresponding to a defective sector by one access to an optical disk storage medium by connecting a memory capable of storing data for several sectors to a read circuit. CONSTITUTION:A memory 8 storing a data capacity by one sector and an alternate sector on one track is connected to a read circuit 7 reading and supplying a data by an optical head 6 from/to an optical disk storage medium 5. When a host device 1 gives a read instruction to a memory device 2, the data of the alternate sector on the same track as the sector designated by the head 6 from the medium 5 and the read sector itself is stored in the memory 8 via the circuit 7. When the designated sector is not defective, the data of the designated sector is sent to the device 1 as it is and when defective, the data of the alternate sector corresponding to the defective sector is transferred from the memory 8 to the device 1.
