Imino derivatives of 4-halopyrazol-5-one (formula I) are useful intermediates for the preparation of 7-halopyrazolo[3,2-c]-s-triazole purple couplers. <IMAGE> In the formula I: X denotes chlorine or bromine, R<1> denotes H, alkyl having 1 to 18 C atoms, preferably having 1 to 4 C atoms, or an optionally substituted phenyl group; R<2> denotes H, -NH2 or -NH-CO-R<3>; and R<3> denotes alkyl having 1 to 18 C atoms, aralkyl, aryl, a heterocyclic group or -COOH.
