PURPOSE:To easily recover an error, by providing a read repeating control means which repeats the reading of a frame in which the error is generated, when the error is generated in the reading or storing time of a picture. CONSTITUTION:A microscanner 1 sets a size, density, a magnification, and receives a read command, and makes a frame picture into an electrical signal with a value corresponding to a set value by a CCD, then outputs it to a host computer 7. In a case when the improperness of picture density, the change of magnification indication, or the shortage of picture data, is generated, it is judged as the generation of the error, and the microscanner 1 judges the possibility of a recovery. In other words, the microscanner 1 checks whether it is possible or not to re-read the data, and when a re-reading is possible, the re-reading is instructed. Thus, when the error is generated at the time of the conversion of a prescribed picture to the electrical signal out of microfilms in which plural frames of picture are recorded, the reading of the frame in which the error is generated can be repeated, and an error recovery can be easily performed.
