A wheelchair comprises a frame 1, rear wheels 2 and front wheels 3. The wheels 2, 3 are fixed to the frame 1. The frame 1 comprises lateral support 4, upper supports 5 and lower supports 6, and a seat 7 is positioned between the lateral supports 4, a backrest 8 assembled with the upper supports and a footrest 9 assembled with the lower supports 6. The rear wheels of the wheelchair are detachable and the frame can be folded up when the wheelchair is altered from the in-use position to the transporting position. The lateral supports 4 consist of two elements of elongate shape, each comprising an upper part and a lower part, respectively 41 and 42, which extend approximately horizontally in the transporting position, and a front part and a rear part, respectively 43 and 44, which assemble together the said horizontal parts and are shorter than the latter. The points for assembling the said parts 41, 42, 43, 44 together and with the upper supports 5 are provided with articulations 45, 46, 47, 48, the frame 1 being foldable into the transport position at these assembly points. The articulation 45 between the upper part 41 of the lateral support and the front part 43 of the latter and the articulation 47 between the lower part 42 and the rear part 44 are load-bearing articulations. At least one articulation 47 of the two lateral supports 4 is provided at T with a sleeve 49 of the like which can move on the said articulation 47 in the in-use position. <IMAGE> |
