The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for braking, cooling and transferring rolled bars in light- and medium-section rolling mills. The aim of the invention is to brake, cool and transfer rolled bars to downstream units with the minimum outlay on equipment and with the minimum space requirement for the equipment while making economic use of heat energy radiated and ensuring high flexibility of the installation. The object of creating a method and an apparatus for braking, cooling and transferring rolled bars in light- and medium-section rolling mills is achieved by the fact that the rolled bars coming from the high-speed shear are guided into a specially designed braking, cooling and transfer apparatus in the form of a cylindrical magazine where they come to rest, are cooled to a desired temperature and are then transferred to a cross-conveyor having a roller table. A further point to note is that the number of magazines with their feed devices can be chosen as desired to match the technological conditions and that they can be arranged in series or in parallel.
