PURPOSE:To stabilize the direction of picked-up ions, by radiating laser beams to an ion source to heat and dissolve the substance to be ionized stored in the ion source. CONSTITUTION:While evacuating the air in a vacuum chamber 70 adequately by a vacuum pump 8, laser beams LB emitted from a laser generator 90 is radiated on the pipe 11 of an ion source 10 in the vacuum chamber 70 through a laser penetrating window 71, to heat the substance 20 to be ionized higher than its melting point. When the pipe 11 is heated and the substance 20 is dis solved depending on the radiation time, the dissolved ions permeate to a chip 13 of the ion source 10 to wet its surface. Then, depending on the power applied to anion pickup electrode 60, ions are picked up selectively from an ion pickup needle 14 to strike the sample 50 perpendicularly. In this case, since no rotating component is produced unlike the system of applying a heater coil, a stable direction of the picked-up ions can be obtained.
