The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1102414/C2/1> in which R represents an alkyl (1-4 C) or an alkenyl (3-4 C), specifically 1,6-dimethyl- and 1 - allyl - 6 - methyl - D 8,9 - ergolene - 8 - carboxylic acids. The compounds are prepared by reacting R-hal, in which hal represents a bromine or iodine atom with 6-methyl-D 8,9-ergolene-8-carboxylic acid in liquid ammonia and in the presence of an alkaline condensation agent such as an alkali metal amide or an alkali metal alcoholate. The compounds are crystalline and may be used as intermediates, e.g. in the preparation of corresponding acid amides. The preparation of 6-methyl-D 8,9-ergolene-8-carboxylic acid is also described. |
