PURPOSE:To obtain a stable dehydrated medicine without causing deterioration in quality, by incorporating crystalline alpha-maltose in a hydrous material, e.g. hydrous nutrient material or hydrous physiologically active material, etc., and converting the crystalline alpha-maltose into hydrous beta-maltose crystals. CONSTITUTION:A dehydrated medicine obtained by incorporating crystalline alpha-maltose in a medicine, raw material therefor or processing intermediate thereof to convert the alpha-maltose into hydrous beta-maltose crystals and reducing the moisture of a hydrous material, e.g. the above-mentioned medicine. Crystalline alpha-maltose, obtained by concentrating an aqueous solution of high-purity maltose with >=85wt%, based on the solid, maltose content under reduced pressure to give a syrup with <10wt% moisture content in a high concentration and crystallizing the above-mentioned syrup in the presence of a seed crystal while keeping at 50-130 deg.C and containing >=55wt% optical isomer alpha-maltose and <3wt% moisture content is preferred for the crystalline alpha-maltose. |
