PURPOSE:The titled composition, obtained by blending a specific ethylene-vinyl acetate based resin and/or linear low-density polyethylene with aluminum hydroxide, having improved mechanical characteristic and low smoking property without toxicity and suitable as a covering material for communication cables. CONSTITUTION:A composition obtained by blending (A) 100pts.wt. ethylene-vinyl acetate based resin containing >=5wt% modified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, modified with an unsaturated fatty acid, e.g., maleic anhydride, and having 500-2,000ppm amount of the above-mentioned added unsaturated fatty acid, 0.05-5g/10min melt index (MI) and 5-50wt% vinyl acetate (VA) concentration and/or linear low-density polyethylene containing >=5wt% modified linear low- density polyethylene, modified with an unsaturated fatty acid and having 500-2,000ppm amount of the added unsaturated fatty acid an 0.91-0,935 density with (B) 75-300pts.wt., preferably 100-200pts.wt. aluminum hydroxide having 0.1-100mu average particle diameter.
