The invention relates to a method for producing a thread using the spark-erosion process. An electrode bearing a thread only on a part of its circumference is moved with respect to the workpiece both axially and in a rotary and planetary fashion. The movements are tuned to one another in such a way that a rolling movement is produced at the machining gap. It is possible in this way for the thread to be worked and finished with high accuracy using a single electrode. No problems arise with flushing the working gap, both because sufficient clearance is present outside the working gap between the electrode and the thread that is to be produced, and because the thread-free part of the electrode repeatedly reaches into the working gap.
