Sterile water, for medical uses, is prepared in a device in which the water passes through a sterile filter and is collected again in an interchangeable irrigator, the latter for use once only, consists of a sterilised recipient which is manufactured from a sheet of synthetic material. The device consists of a suspending frame which is hung by a strip from the ceiling of the operating theatre. The water arrives at the inlet of the filter, the tubular appendage of the latter is introduced into the upper tubulure of the irrigator and the lower turbulure of the irrigator is connected to the tube which goes to the accessory in which the water is to be used. This tube can be fitted with a non-return valve and pref. with a germ barrier. The irrigator usually holds sufficient water for one operation or cystoscopic examination. After treatment the irrigator is replaced with another for the next patient. The new device replaces the rigid glass vessel used hitherto. It can be made from a pliable, tubular plastic sheet, or it can be made in two halves which are welded together thermoplastically. The vessel is cheap and a fresh, previously sterilised irrigator can be used for each patient.
|
