PURPOSE:To enhance efficiency, by sequentially providing a ribbon trailing end detection type, a printing head cleaning tape and a cleaning tape trailing end detection tape in the vicinity of the trailing end of a ribbon. CONSTITUTION:When a printing operation proceeds and a roll of a ribbon is used, a ribbon trailing end detection tape 4 is detected by a detecting means of a printer. In response to the detection, the printing operation is stopped, and feeding of the ribbon is continued, whereby a printing head cleaning tape 5 is passed through a printing head part of the printer to clean the printing head. A cleaning tape trailing end detection tape 6 is provided next to the cleaning tape 5, and when the detection tape 6 is detected, the feeding of the ribbon is stopped. Accordingly, the printing head can be automatically cleaned, and the cleaning operation can be automatically stopped. |
