PURPOSE:To enable blank lines to be set in the position of a printing head within a short running distance by providing a printing head away by distance corresponding to half the total number of lines of a pass book from an optical sensor and determining the blank lines. CONSTITUTION:When the rear end of a pass book P passed through the position of a run sensor S-1, the sensor determines the availability of a blank line and sets the pass book P in a home position where magnetic stripes are read. Then when the content of the pass book is found normal as a result of the reading of the stripes, a blank line judgement circuit determines the availability of a blank across the entire line in accordance with a signal transmitted from an optical sensor S3. When the judgement of all the lines is terminated, a printing head PH provided away by half the entire line of the pass book P from the optical sensor S3 is located at the center of the pass book P. From this location, the pass book P is allowed to run so as to permit the blank line to be positioned at the printing head PH for printing process. Consequently, it is possible to set a blank line in the position of the printing head over a short running distance and accelerate printing process speed. |
