PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for decomposing methanol having excellent sepn. activity, selectivity, etc., for producing gases contg. hydrogen, carbon monoxide, etc., by adding an alkali hydroxide to a soln. mixture composed of copper, nickel and aluminum to effect co-precipitation. CONSTITUTION:The alkali hydroxide is added to the aq. soln. of the salts of the copper, nickel and aluminum preferably without contg. sulfur and halogen to effect the co-precipitation. The precipitate is calcined at about 250-800 deg.C after drying and is pelletized. The atomic ratios of the copper, nickel and aluminum are 30-95%, 2-20% and 3-50%. The phosphate of aluminum may be added to the co-precipitate cake. The catalyst for decomposing the methanol which by-produces hydrocarbon, etc., to the lower degree and has the excellent decomposition activity, selectivity, durability, etc., for producing the gases contg. hydrogen, carbon monoxide, etc., by catalytically decomposing the methanol alone or decomposing the same together with steam is thus obtd. |
