PURPOSE:To perform parallel recording and long-time recording and to record a wide-band FM signal by employing not digital recording, but FM recording for S-DAT. CONSTITUTION:The recording format of S-DAT suits to FM recording essen tially. A sound signal 1e=AcosomegaAt is applied to an FM modulator 2 to obtain an FM signal at its output. In general, a higher-frequency component is easy to generate as the output of a modulator, so it is applied to a frequency con verter 3 together with the output of a local oscillator 4 (frequency omega0) so as to match with recording-reproducing transmission frequency characteristics of a head tape. When 2 in figure is a low-frequency output FM modulator, the local oscillator 3 and frequency converter 4 are not necessary. A switch 9 is placed at a reproducing position 11 for reproduction and a signal reproduced by a head 7 is amplified 12 and modulated by an FM demodulator 13 into a sound signal as a sound output 14. A video signal is divided to 16 tracks and a recording and a reproducing signal are put together to record and repro duce a television signal.
