PURPOSE:To eliminate the mixing of developer of different color by comparing the state of use of developer with the indicated color and referring to the information of cleaning, and cleaning the developing device when both are in the relation of different color and there is no information of finishing of cleaning, and then supplying the developer of indicated color. CONSTITUTION:Supply of developer and cleaning agent to a developing device is judged, and when the cleaning agent is supplied, the information indicating finishing of cleaning is held, and when the developer is supplied, the information indicating the completion of cleaning is erased. Referring to the indicated color of a color indicating means and the information of the state of agent supply and cleaning obtained from a state supervisory means, if there is no information of completion of cleaning, the supply of cleaning liquid is instructed to a cleaning liquid supplying means. When there is the information of completion of cleaning, the supply of developer of indicated color is instructed to a supplying means, and the instruction is given to a switching device to supply to a tank that receives the developer of indicated color. When the recording color is changed to the different color, the developing device is cleaned by the cleaning liquid, and the developer to be changed next is supplied to the developing device.
