PURPOSE:To make automatic inserting operation possible by recording a pilot signal different in standard from an insert video signal in a PCM track in which an audio signal and a pilot signal for tracking control are superposed and reproducing them. CONSTITUTION:The pilot signal different in standard from the insert video signal is recorded in the PCM track in which the audio signal and the pilot signal for tracking control are recorded in superposition.Reproduced signals from the PCM tracks are processed by a band limiting filter 31, BPF 33, 34 etc. and pilot reproduced signals are taken out and supplied through a gate circuit 40 and a waveform shaping circuit 44. Then, a judging circuit 45 decides automatically the presence of insert video signal etc. by the presence of pilot signals different in standard, and automatic inserting operation is made by a deciding output of the present from the circuit 45.
