The invention relates to a coating composition which comprises a polymercapto compound and, as curing agent, a polyisocyanate. The coating composition can be formulated with a very high solids content of, for example, more than 70%, and up to 100% non-volatile solids. The coating composition of the invention can be cured as a coating on a substrate under the conditions of vapour permeation curing. In this curing process, a tertiary amine in vapour form acts as catalyst on the coating composition. The coating composition may be in the form of an atomised material which is produced simultaneously with the tertiary amine vapour and is mixed with this vapour and then applied to the substrate, or it may be in the form of an already applied coating of the composition, on which the vapour-like tertiary amine acts. The coating composition of the invention is distinguished by outstanding pot lives and very good curing characteristics.
