PURPOSE:To prevent contamination due to the inflow of molten steel to sampling chamber, atmosphere within a furnace, the mixing of fine metal powder and the like, by opening a specimen flow inlet at the lower end face of the sampling chamber provided on a probe while an exhaust means communicating between the inside and the outside of the sampling chamber. CONSTITUTION:A specimen flow inlet 8 is opened at the lower end face of a sampling chamber 7 provided on a probe 1 and an exhaust means 10 communicating between the inside and the outside of the sampling chamber 7 is provided. Then, as the probe 1 is lowered into a furnace, slag approaches the sampling chamber 7 from the flow inlet 8. Here, air in the sampling chamber 7 is discharged out thereof by the exhaust means 10 to fill the sampling chamber 7 with the slag with the smooth approaching thereof. At this point, no molten steel will penetrate into the sample chamber 7 from the flow inlet 8 even with the immersion of the probe 1 thereinto passing through the slag layer because the sampling chamber 7 is filled with the slag. Besides, the slag fills the sampling chamber 7 while being solidified being cooled therein to have the circumferential surface thereof kept from being exposed out of the chamber thereby eliminating reoxidation or mixing of dust into the furnace due to the atmosphere in the furnace.
