PURPOSE:To prevent the protrusion of a peripheral-surface protecting member and a sealing member by compressing the protecting member and the sealing member in the direction of contracted diameter, making the thickness uniform in the peripheral direction, and by applying shell half bodies from the both sides onto the insertion collected body within the elastic restoration time of the sealing member. CONSTITUTION:An insertion collected body 42 is constituted by installing a peripheral-surface protecting member 16, edge part protecting members 18 and 19 and a sealing member 17 onto a catalyst 3. Then, the peripheral-surface protecting member 16 of the insertion collected body 42 is pressed to have a uniform thickness in the peripheral direction, and the sealing member 17 is compressed in the direction of contracted diameter, making the thickness uniform in the peripheral direction. Then, the shell half bodies 9 and 10 are applied from the both sides onto the insertion collected body 42 within the elastic restoration time of the sealing member 17, and the both shell half bodies 9 and 10 are welding-joined. |
