PURPOSE:To prevent generation of a change in discharge characteristics following froths or a fouling of a device by providing a defrothing device consisting of a froth-breaking member filled layer in an ink circulating circuit. CONSTITUTION:A front breaking device 20 is provided in an ink circulating circuit. The froth breaking device 20 is composed of a stainless steel-wool filled layer 21, a teflon-fiber filled layer 22 and a thermal heater 23. A contact area between the froth and a froth breaking member can be enlarged by allowing ink to pass through a filler layer. In addition, the ink is allowed to pass through a porous metallic layer and a water-repellent high molecular layer in succession. As a result, the thermal effect by the heating of a metal wool layer and the effect by a difference in the wetting property of a member are obtained simultaneously to permit effective froth breaking. This froth breaking device is of small type and its calorific value is low, so that no significant increase in ink degradation or in power consumption is recognized, thus enabling stable continuous printing for a long time. |
