PURPOSE:To attain normal operation even if a track 0 of a recording medium has a defect by providing a track address converting circuit. CONSTITUTION:After a required test is conducted to an assembled magnetic disc device, a defect check is applied to a recording medium, and if a defect exists in the track 0, a track address converting circuit applies initial setting so that a track nearest the track 0 and having no defect has zero level of the logical track. When a controller designates a track 0, a track address signal received by an interface circuit 2 is converted into a physical track address having no defect and set initially by the track address converting circuit 4 and sent to a positioning drive circuit 6, which drives a motor 8 and positions the head to the designated physical track address. |
