PURPOSE:To simplify the construction of a torque converter and a transmission by supplying the output of a reversal stator in the torque converter to the input of one of sun gears of a planet gear type transmission. CONSTITUTION:The output of a reversal stator 18 provided at the turbine 14 side in a torque converter 10 is sent to the input of a second sun gear 50 of a double row planet gear type transmission 12 through an one-way clutch 32a. On the other hand, the output of a turbine 14 of the torque converter 10 is sent to the input of a first sun gear 36a of the transmission 12 and the drive output is generated from a planet carrier 40 formed coaxially with the sun gear. A first outer gear 42a, second outer gear 51 and reversal stator shift 30 are provided respectively with a first speed clutch F1, backward clutch R, second speed clutch F2 between casings 22. Thus, the transmission is constituted by utilizing the reverse force of the stator 18, so that the number of clutches can be reduced.
