An installation for the removal of oil slicks on expanses of water is used to burn away the oil film. For this, a number of porous shaped bodies (2, 3, 4) made from a fireproof, inorganic and ceramic fibre material are connected together. Each shaped body (2, 3, 4) is made to float by hydrophobic treatment.
