The device measures the reactance, e.g. that of a capacitor 1, which is being used as a sensor of a physical quantity and whose capacitance depends on the magnitude of the quantity. The capacitor 1 is inserted in an LC filter 1, 2 whose phase shift is measured. The variations in phase shift depend linearly on the capacitance of the capacitor 1. The device for measuring the phase shift consists of a generator 3, two comparators 4, 5, an integrator 7 and a data acquisition and display circuit 8. The device measures small capacitances simply and reliably. <IMAGE>
