Up until now, the ends of the bars of stairway handrails have had to be precisely mitred in order to correspond to the vertical progression of the adjacent wall corners and wall edges, while taking the rise of the stairway into consideration. The outlay for this is high. Doing the finishing touches on site usually produces unsightly results. In order to avoid these, the ends 10 of the bars are now enclosed by caps 11 comprising two shell elements 12 connected to each other. The shell elements 12 are fixed by screwing or clamping on the ends 10 of the bars. Expediently, the surfaces of the shell elements are adapted to the surface structure of the bars 8, 9. <IMAGE>
