PURPOSE:To obtain the titled roll material having remarkably high hardness and capable of maintaining high hardness even in the inner layer by restricting the contents of C, Si, Mn, P, S, Ni, Cr and Mo. CONSTITUTION:The titled roll material consists of, by weight, 1.8-2.5% C, 0.5-2.0% Si, 0.5-2.0% Mn, <=0.030% P, <=0.020% S, 1.0-4.5% Ni, 1.5-6.2% Cr, 0.5-2.0% Mo and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and satisfies the equation expressing the relation among C, Si, Ni and Cr. When the roll material is used, a roll showing superior wear resistance during rolling under severe conditions is obtd. The roll has a long durable life, improves productivity in a rolling stage, and can reduce roll consumption unit.
