The invention relates to the main body of the device, namely a membrane 1 moulded from flexible and elastic material which can fold to allow its passage through a gap and unfold by its characteristic elasticity without an added device. This membrane 1 has overthicknesses 7 arranged in a star shape giving it good elasticity so as to reassume its initial shape after folding. These overthicknesses 7 have an elongate shape which can have or not have parallel edges and end either on the edge of the membrane 1, or recessed from the latter; moreover, they are situated on the outer face of the membrane 1 so as to present a smooth surface on the hull C thus ensuring perfect sealing. Fastening of the membrane 1 on the rod 2 is provided by self-locking nuts or by an insert upon moulding of the membrane 1. The device according to the invention is particularly intended for stopping a leak on a ship. <IMAGE>
